THURSDAY 14TH DECEMBER

Today is my last day in the studio before we break up for Christmas, and I spent some time in the morning developing my ideas for the silhouette for my piece, earlier in the week I had come up with an idea, however, I have decided not to go along with that idea as I felt it was playing it safe, and I do want to challenge myself with this piece,e and make it very sculptural and theatrical, and I felt this initially idea was too boring. Yesterday evening I spent some time trying to make samples, I knew I needed to add wire to the piece because it needed to be molded and have structure. So initially I tried knitting the yarn with a thin wire, however, this was far too challenging, and I couldn't even make a sample of it, as the wire was too stiff. so I also tried knitting with the yarn, for some rows, and then every three rows i would do a row using wire. this again was quite difficult and i struggled a lot. I also didn't like the appearance of the wire, as my piece focuses on femininity and the wire in my opinion felt too industrial. so I decided to thread the wire into a sample after, and this was much more successful and the wire wasn't very noticeable. I then went on to create collages today using my sample, photocopying it, which was very successful, as it gave me a better idea of what my piece would be able to look like. We then received peer feedback. from the peer feedback I understood i needed to refine and develop my narrative, and go back into my mood board. at the beginning I definitely didn't have a clear route of where I wanted my project to go, and so i was doing quite broad mind-maps, and i think i need to make sure that i have got more refined primary research. they have also told me to add texture to collages which is something i agree with, and they said to develop and form shapes from the weave which is something i could explore as i hadn't considered that. They also said they wanted to see more 3D experiments with the samples, placing the collages onto the body to develop. i think it was helpful to have feedback, as it allowed me to see from a different perspective what others liked, or thought i could improve on. I also found it interesting to see others work, to help me improve on my own work and become inspired.

over the holidays i need to:

-work back into my sketchbook to make sure there is a clear narrative throughout.

- create my piece

-research further ideas of Marie Antoinette narrative

-create a shoot for my piece.
